My new book, No Precious Truth, will be published on April 1.
However, in exchange for an honest review, you can read it now. It’s available on NetGalley. You need to register with them – free and only takes a few seconds – then be approved for Severn House titles. If you’re not, please drop me a line and I should be able to fix that for you.
It’s the start of a new series, Leeds in World War 2, with a new female lead character I love, but yes, I’m nervous about it, even more so than when a series in established. I’d like plenty of people to read it and give their opinions, so you’d actually be helping me.
Thank you in advance.
If you are registered with NetGalley and approved for Severn Housem simply go here.

Hi, Chris!
It has been a while since I last wrote to you!
I am very excited about your new series about Leeds, but in trying to register at NetGalley, they seem to want me to be a publishing professional, a teacher, a professional reviewer who posts to social media, a librarian, or a member of the media, and although I would be happy to write a review of your book, I am none of those things!
I have been a college teacher, but I am now retired!
Does this mean that I cannot register at NetGalley?
Thanks, Chris, and good luck with your new book and series!
Happy New Year!
Steve Cohen
Hi Steve,
My suggestion is to say you’re a reviewer who posts to social media. After all, if you’re happy to write a review of the book and you’re willing to post it, it’s basically true. How does that sound to you?
Thanks, Chris.
As you suggested, I told them on their form that I reviewed books on-line and I filled out the rest of their form as far as I could.
In the section on my experience and interests, I wrote the following:
“I enjoy reading historical mysteries, and I especially enjoy finding well-written and historically accurate mystery series, where the characters grow and are not just people from today, plunked down into Victorian times, for instance.
As a retired college English teacher, I hope that I recognize good writing, and as a student of history, I enjoy learning about how people of all classes lived.
I would like to share my experiences and my interests with other Net Galley readers”
All of that is true, but in the next section, they require a current URL or link to my existing on-line reviews.
To this point, most of my reviews have been given to friends and family, and while I would certainly be happy to review books on Amazon and Google, I have no current URL or Link to show them.
Thank you for all your help, Chris, and if you have other any other ideas, please let me know.
Thank you,
Steve Cohen
Steve, sorry that didn’t work. Someone else managed to create an account as an educator. Don’t know if that can work for you…
If you keep having problems, can you send me an email through the site, please.
